About the Department
Established in 1965, the Department of Economics is one of the pioneering departments of Government College Hamirpur. Since its inception, the department has remained committed to academic excellence, social relevance, and intellectual integrity. It began by offering the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Economics programme, providing students with a strong foundation in economic theory, quantitative reasoning, and policy analysis. Recognizing the growing demand for higher education in economics, the Master of Arts (M.A.) in Economics was introduced in 1995–96, with an intake capacity of 30 students.
Over the decades, the department has evolved into a vibrant academic unit known for its rigorous pedagogy, research orientation, and holistic education. It operates with three sanctioned faculty positions—comprising Associate and Assistant Professors—who bring expertise in microeconomics, macroeconomics, development economics, public finance, and econometrics.
